MMC Supports Student-Led Production Featuring Colin Kaepernick on State of the House

The Morehouse Multimedia Center (MMC) recently supported a special episode of State of the House, produced by student journalists from The Maroon Tiger, featuring acclaimed activist, author, and former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The interview provided the Morehouse community with a powerful conversation on activism, leadership, literacy, and social change.

As part of its mission to expand experiential learning opportunities for students, the MMC advised members of The Maroon Tiger production team and provided professional-grade production equipment that enabled students to produce the multi-camera interview at a high professional standard.

Hosted by Joshua Bass, Editor-in-Chief of The Maroon Tiger and journalism major, the episode gave viewers insight into Kaepernick's reflections on his activism, his recently published book The Perilous Fight, and the lessons he has learned throughout his journey as an athlete, advocate, entrepreneur, and author. During the conversation, Kaepernick discussed the importance of literacy, political education, and collective action while sharing personal experiences that helped shape his perspective on leadership and social justice.

The collaboration highlights the growing opportunities available to students through the MMC, where emerging creatives can access industry-standard resources, gain hands-on production experience, and develop professional storytelling skills while working on real-world projects.

In addition to producing the video interview, students from The Maroon Tiger reported on Kaepernick's visit and published a feature article that examined his discussion of activism, race, power, and the inspiration behind The Perilous Fight. The article was written by Freddrell Green, Managing Editor of The Maroon Tiger and journalism major, and provides additional context from Kaepernick's appearance at Morehouse College.

The project serves as another example of how collaboration between student organizations and the Morehouse Multimedia Center is creating opportunities for students to tell impactful stories while developing skills in journalism, broadcasting, filmmaking, and digital media production.
